Legal Pinch on the CheekThe things I learned this week
you can not have "inspired by LOTRS" in an item you are selling on Etsy title, even if it is NOT a direct copy of anything in the movies, or Warner Brothers will send you a little legal letter. Can't have LOTRS in keywords either. Or hobbit. no idea on elf. Guess I'm just that good, huh?
Help with Resin! Color tint and type, please help!So I'm sure the whole internet by now has seen this, but this guy wonderful glowy shelve has inspired me to do something similar for a picture frame for a Hellboy poster I have. Now, I am a fairly experienced woodworking, I work in a furniture shop, so building the frame doesn't intimidate me at all. But I know NOTHING about the filler resin. I have some really knotty gnarly cedar wood I'd love to use, and have the cracks and knot hole all filled in with red resin. The resin part is what intimidating me, as there seems to be a lot of types and pigment options to choose from, and it looks like I could spend a lot of money and royally screw up. I know what I need, I need it to sand to a fine grit well. I'd like to have it a nice deep crystal like red (glow in the dark is nice, but I'm happy with just UV reactive if that is all I can get) I'm going to use an oil finish, so and to highlight the wood grain. So, anyone w
Dragon Con bust.SO, and update... :iconInkibus: and I are NOT going to Dragon Con this year. Due to an unfortunate turn of events which had both our main plans of travel and our backup plans imploding, and being hit financial, we just couldn't put a plan together in time that had us not mooching off friends, feeling safe, or a way back if things got bad for some reason..... Not even mentioning trying to transport costume or food or anything. To say were bummed out would be the understatement of the year. A it is, we're going to try again next year, and hopefully things will be more secure. SO if we're kinda scares for the next two seek, we're just avoiding the internet.

Watermarks and credit due.First off... THANK you everyone who's gotten back to me on my last post! I' will get back to you ASP, but first, I have to address somthing that's taken my crappy week and made it crappier. Today I was informed by a friend on Facebook that one of my piece of work was posted on a Facebook page, and miscredited to another Devant (Note, I am not link to that Devants page... as far as I can tell, they have no knowledge of the miscredit, nor are they claiming my work as theirs. I don't know why they are link to my work, but I don't want them to get any negative blowback for no reason).
The post in question is here And the piece that was miscredited is this one
I commented with links to my DA and FB page, asking them to fix it. So far, this has not been anything

Few artists have so definitively reflected the lives of average Americans as Norman Rockwell.
He began his lifetime dedication to being the “America’s Illustrator” as the 19-year-old art editor for Boys’ Life, the house publication of the Boy Scouts of America. A few years later he assumed his more famous position at The Saturday Evening Post, though he never broke his ties with the Boy Scouts. His first great achievement painting everyday scenes of America in his signature hyper-realistic style was
Photographs and paintings of stars occupy that category of things you know are so, and yet it’s not quite possible to believe. One example is radio or television “signals” traveling in “waves” through the air, only to be reassembled for your listening or viewing pleasure in your living room radio or TV. Looking at clusters of stars lighting up the night sky like massive storm clouds, it’s impossible to think of those stars, those points of light, as separate massive burning suns, even though I know it’s so. Sometimes the most powerful magic requires no deception at all. The natural universe is more mystifying in its sheer numbers than any magician’s most mind–bending sleight of hand.

Sometimes a painter’s vision expresses and inspires what the zen philosopher’s words can only define and describe.
When remarkable lives defined by success and abundance are reviewed from their beginnings, it is remarkable that the narrowest of paths, sometimes a precarious balancing between life and death itself, led to the decision to fight on when failure seemed certain. S

For several months the world has been asking the question ‘Who is Doctor Strange?’
The faces of Ethan Hawke, Johnny Depp, Jon Hamm, Joaquin Phoenix, Tom Hardy, Jared Leto have been click bait for a thousand sites waiting for news of the star of the next Marvel movie franchise. According to Mike Fleming over at Deadline it now looks like Marvel have finally landed their perfect Doctor Strange in Sherlock’s Benedict Cumberbatch.
But while everyone is chasing the casting news, who is asking the real question here of ‘Who is Doctor Strange?’
In ancient tradition, Halloween was thought to be the night of the year when the realms of the living of the living and the dead came the closest together, enabling evil spirits and demons to hop over to our side to make mischief. For centuries the Church made very serious studies of what these hellacious creatures were actually thought to look like. Today, “creature imagining” is just a creative exercise and a way of having fun. Thank goodness none of our deviantART artists are drawing any of the subjects of this collection from live models. (Then again, just maybe…)

Collection: Dia de Los Muertos
Dia de los Muertos
“Day of the Dead” is not the “Latin American Halloween.” On Dia de los Muertos, Mexican families visit the spirits of their dead in the cemeteries where they rest. They bring food and other gifts as part of a happy celebration of departed loved ones. Halloween originated with the fear of the sprits of the dead visiting the living so food was offered as bribery for the spirits to do no harm. It was a scary once–a–year intersection of the world of the living with the world of the dead. Day of the Dead continues to be a celebration as antidote to mourning the passing over of loved ones. It is about the indestructible bonds of family being forever connected—even in the next world.

Halloween is a time for masks. Aliens, zombies, vampires and werewolves will soon walk the suburban streets in search of tasty treats. But then there is the next level of masks—the likenesses of movie stars, politicians and other celebrities with their most unflattering features exaggerated. Cheap shots, to be sure, but alibied as “satire.” We finally arrive at the “non–off–the–rack” mask–making of actual make–up artists. Here’s where the mask one chooses tells us things about the person we only thought we knew. You see, the scariest thing about masks is their very concept—of a friend or loved one, beneath the surface, not really being the person you know at all. That is a truly fearful thi
