Here's this is wonderful Grima costume again, but from the back. Now you can see the wonderful smocking job that spent maddening hours doing. You can also see that the dye job she did did not quite reach the tips of her hair, thus a little bit of brown showing. Too bad the velvet blends together so much in the photos, you can just barely make out the fact that the sleeves are not connected to the length of the body, but hang free. You can also see the nice place that goes on the tightfitting sleeves to. All in all I'm very very pleased with this costume.
I thought she was mad trying to do it, but she did it, and it looks wonderful! One of these days I'll take it out to our shipping scale and see how much it exactly ways!
The smocked part is a dollar a yard find from Wal-Mart (of all places). A burned test determine that is made of rayon. It had a very nice drape and was quite heavy with a slightly wrinkly texture and a bronze undertone that worked well. The velvet part is rayon velvet from Denver fabric in a dusty black color. We tried to find silk velvet for this, but ran out of time and money and had to settle for rayon which, with its slightly beat up and frumpy look, worked perfectly.
